GSTS wins 2015 Edition of Osagyefo Cup

The Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS) in Takoradi was crowned winners of the fifth edition of the Annual Osagyefo Cup Competition held to mark the birthday of Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah. The competition, organised on every Founders Day, at the Half Assini Senior High School (HASCO) in the Jomoro District of the Western Region, saw GSTS, popularly known as the ‘Giants of the West’ beat their counterparts Kikam Technical Institute (KIMTECH), from the Ellembele District 4-2 on penalties after sixty minutes of goalless draw.

Wednesday 2nd December, 201: Authorities of GSTS Call for Assistance

Mr Asford Adams, the Headmaster of Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS) has bemoaned the deteriorating state of the school’s infrastructure which is gradually having its toll on teaching and learning. He said bed bugs had infested the dormitories of the school, giving students sleepless nights and uncongenial atmosphere for quality academic work. Mr. Adams said this at the 106th speech and prize giving day of GSTS on the theme: The Role of Science, Technical and Vocational Education in the Development of the Nation. Bedbugs infest SHSs in Western Region

At least five senior high schools in the Western Region have been invaded by bedbug, causing discomfort and health problems for the students, which is hampering academic work. The affected schools include the Sekondi College, St John’s Senior High School and Ghana Secondary/Technical School (GSTS), all in the Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolis. The others are the Esiama Senior High School in the Ellembelle District and Nsein Senior High School in the Nzema East District. When the Daily Graphic followed up on the issue in five of the schools, the infestation was confirmed and in some of the schools, the bugs could be found in crevices of walls and ceilings of dormitories, as well as in the wooden beds on which the students slept

Giants Association Fumigate Alma Mater

Takoradi, Jan. 12, GNA – Belongings of students of the Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS) have been quarantined to undergo fumigation as part of an exercise to rid the school of bed bugs.The exercise, sponsored by the Giants Association (the alumni of the school), is to ensure that the school is rid of the blood sucking insects.Mr Ralph Menz, Secretary of the Association, said the Giants Association worldwide had contributed over GHC 55000 to enable Jem Intercontinental Services Limited undertake a one week fumigation exercise in and around the school compound.Mr Emmanuel Hazel, lead fumigator, attributed the situation to over population of the school and bad sanitary conditions.

He called for an intensification of the inspection regime by house masters to ensure that students thoroughly clean and maintain a healthy environment in the school.Giant Ebo Simpson, Executive Member of the Association, said a team of engineers, planners and quantity surveyors have been dispatched to carry out structural integrity assessment plans for the school.He said the association is also helping the school to develop a master plan and this may call for the total demolition of some structures and renovations for others.

Dr Ashitey Trebi-Ollennu is a Fellow of the IEE (U.K.) and a Senior Member of the IEEE (USA). He was born in Accra, Ghana. He currently works on Mars Exploration Rover Operations Team of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) of the United States. Dr Ashitey Trebi-Ollennu attended Garrison Primary School in Burma Camp and Ghana Secondary Technical School Takoradi for his O’ and A’ level). He had his Bachelors in Engineering (B.Eng.) in Avionics at Queen Mary College, University of London in 1991 where his dissertation was on Review of 4-D guidance techniques and the simulation of 4-D aircraft guidance.

Major General JN Adinkrah Profile

Major General J N Adinkrah was born on 19 April 1950. He attended the Accra Academy (Accra ACA) from 1965 to 1970 where he obtained his General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level Certificate. As part of a special programme for enlistment at the time, he was enlisted together with a group of enterprising young men and enrolled into the sixth form at the Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS) in Takoradi from 1970 to 1972, with intermittent military training during holidays.

FAMU-FSU College of Engineering Dean to Step Down

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Yaw Yeboah, Ph.D., announced today that he will step down as dean of the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering (COE) on July 31. Yeboah became the fifth dean of the COE on July 1, 2012. Marcella David, J.D., provost and vice president for Academic Affairs at FAMU, and Sally McRorie, interim provost and executive vice president for Academic Affairs at FSU announced that Bruce Locke, Ph.D., former chair of the COE Department of Chemical & Biomedical Engineering and currently FSU associate provost, will assume the role of interim dean on Aug. 1.

The new CDS The profile of Vice Admiral Mathew Quashie appointed as Chief of Defence Staff by President John Dramani Mahama obtained by the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Monday. Vice Admiral Mathew Quashie was born on March 23, 1951 in Accra. He attended Mfanstipim Secondary School in Cape Coast for his General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary Level Certificate from 1965 to 1970. He entered the Ghana Military Academy in 1970 and subsequently enrolled in to the Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS), Takoradi, from 1970 to 1972 for the GCE Advanced Level Certificate.He continued his basic military officer training at the Britannia Royal Navy College, United Kingdom, and commissioned Sub-Lieutenant into the Executive Branch of the Ghana Navy in July 1974. From January to December 1979, Vice Admiral Mathew Quashie attended many courses, which included the international Sub-Lieutenant Course at Dartmouth and United Kingdom.
